Find out how our ecoBiz Star Partner Perfect Potion (a manufacturer in Brisbane) reduced their waste, water and energy use.

The free ecoBiz program has assessed the waste, water and energy practices in hundreds of businesses in Queensland and developed case studies to help businesses improve their operations and save money through sustainability.

Perfect Potion manufactures and sells organic skincare and aromatherapy products. They recently moved to a new manufacturing and warehousing facility in Banyo (Brisbane).

From their packaging to their potions, Perfect Potion is paving the way for sustainability excellence in the manufacturing space. Since they reached out to ecoBiz in 2017, they have cut by more than half their energy consumption and waste sent to landfill.

"We are committed to treading gently on the Earth and wanted to do better after moving to a new facility. The ecoBiz team were great in assisting us on the right track and continue to assist in continuous improvements. They made the journey simple and less daunting. Without their assistance and knowledge, it would have been a harder road.” Janet Shackleton, General Manager

KEY INITIATIVES TO REDUCE ENERGY USE in their warehouse

  • Their 99kW solar system helped reduce production costs, with a payback period as short as four years, and allowed Perfect Potion to remove peak demand charges from their bills (fell below the 100MW/year threshold).
  • Skylight panels bring natural light into the warehouse, and energy-efficient lighting (LEDs) has been installed.
  • They fully insulated their warehouse space and installed plastic curtains to prevent cooling loss.
  • Mechanical ventilation (large fans, whirly birds) in their packing bay helps circulate air where it is needed most to avoid excessive air conditioning use.
  • They regularly service the cooling system and use sensor monitoring.

KEY INITIATIVES TO REDUCE waste IN THEIR WAREHOUSE

  • They purchased a cardboard crimper so that cardboard material, rather than plastic packaging, can be reused for outgoing shipments.
  • Waste stations throughout the warehouse enable efficient waste separation. Soft plastics, batteries and print cartridges are all recycled.
  • They give away pallets and plastic drums to partner businesses, removing additional waste from landfill stream.
